Viking Star Gym

Overall, the gym on the ship was decent although not spectacular.  Most of the equipment is Technogym brand.  There were five treadmills, a few ellipticals, a few bikes, strength training machines, dumbbells going up to close to 50lbs in 2kg increments, and stretching equipment.  There are always as many towels available as you would like as well as water bottles.  The gym could get a bit crowded at peak times, although most of the time space was not an issue.

In terms of the cardio equipment, the treadmills, ellipticals, and bikes work well and appear to be of high quality.  There are various options on the screen which include listening to music via bluetooth or watching a video of your simulated run.  Unfortunately, despite having live television in the staterooms, there is no options to watch television on the screens of the cardio equipment.  Also there is no television in the workout area.  However, there is a nice view out the windows of the sea or port.  See below for the cardio equipment screen interface.

There are four strength machines consisting of high row, low row, shoulder press, and chest press.  All of the machines are cable-based and worked well without issue.

The free-weight area was slightly small, with one adjustable bench, one decline abs bench, and two machines for stretching.  Additionally there were various balls and stability equipment.

Finally there was an area with a cable-machine along with an open space area.  I did not use this machine very much, although it worked fine when I tried it out.
Additionally, there were a few circuit and stretching classes offered at specific times.  They each cost $10 so I did not partake.  Overall, I would say the gym was good but not great.  It was functional and allowed us to exercise, so most of my complaints were small issues.  I have heard that Viking may be enlarging their gyms on some ships, taking some space away from the hair styling areas which I think is a great idea and would result in a better use of available space.
